核心知识

Before you even look at the answer choices, read the sentence before and after the blank and ask: what is the relationship between these two ideas?

Addition – the second idea adds to or agrees with the first. Signals: furthermore, moreover, in addition, also.

Contrast – the second idea opposes, limits, or surprises given the first. Signals: however, nevertheless, on the other hand, in contrast.

Cause–effect – the first idea leads to or explains the second. Signals: therefore, consequently, as a result, thus.

Example – the second idea is a specific instance of the first. Signals: for instance, for example, specifically.

Time/sequence – the ideas are ordered chronologically. Signals: meanwhile, subsequently, previously, then.

Once you've named the relationship, eliminate any option that signals a different one. Usually only one choice signals the correct relationship.
