知识点 5

Translate among representations (equation, graph, table, verbal description).

Translate between words, tables, graphs, and equations by tracking the same rule.

核心知识

Different representations describe the same rule. Translate by locating the starting value, the rate or pattern, and any restriction or condition that changes the rule.

深入理解

Rule: ACT often moves the same relationship between words, tables, graphs, and equations. The fastest translation is usually built from two clues: where the function starts and how it changes. In a linear context, that means intercept plus slope. In a table, it may mean constant difference or constant ratio. In a graph, it may mean endpoints, slope, or turning points.

If you pull out those features first, you do not have to memorize separate tricks for every format. You are just rewriting the same rule in a new language.
