Concept 3
Use correct comparative/superlative forms and logical comparisons.
Core Idea
Use a comparative for two things, a superlative for three or more, and make sure the sentence compares like with like.
Understanding
Rule: Some ACT errors sound subtle because the comparison word is only slightly off. "Best" looks strong, but it is wrong if the sentence compares only two options.
- Also make sure the sentence does not compare unlike things, such as a student to a sentence or a city to a bus route.
Question
Worked Example

"Of the two routes to the observatory, the north trail is _____ because it has fewer steep turns."
