知识点 2

Organize paragraphs so each advances the argument logically.

Order paragraphs so each one moves the argument forward in a clear and logical sequence.

核心知识

Paragraph order should reflect the argument's logic. A reader should feel why one paragraph comes next instead of seeing a random pile of points.

深入理解

Paragraph order is part of the argument. If the paragraphs could switch places without changing the essay much, the structure is probably too loose.

  • Useful orders: problem to solution, strongest reason to qualification, or claim to objection to rebuttal.
  • Weak order: points appear in the order the writer happened to think of them.
  • Revision move: write one sentence for what each paragraph must accomplish, then check whether the order makes the reader's work easier. If the answer is no, reorder before polishing sentences.

Logical sequence makes the essay feel intentional, not improvised.

分步讲解

  1. Decide what the first body paragraph must establish.
  2. Choose whether the next paragraph should deepen, qualify, or challenge that point.
  3. Place objections and consequences where they clarify the argument instead of interrupting it.
