知识点 4

Maintain clear pronoun reference and pronoun–antecedent agreement.

核心知识

A pronoun should point to one clear noun and match that noun in number.

深入理解

Rule: If two people, objects, or ideas could fit the pronoun, the sentence is not clear enough. ACT often rewards the choice that repeats the exact noun instead of saving words with a vague pronoun.

  • Agreement matters too. A singular antecedent should not quietly turn into a plural pronoun, and vice versa.
