知识点 6

Use apostrophes for possession and contractions; avoid apostrophes in plurals.

核心知识

Apostrophes show possession or missing letters in contractions. They do not make a noun plural.

深入理解

Rule: ACT often places several similar-looking word forms side by side. Ask whether the word owns something, shortens something, or simply names more than one item.

  • If more than one person owns the thing together, the apostrophe usually comes after the plural noun. If you only need a plural, do not add an apostrophe at all.
