Command of Evidence

Core Idea

Command of Evidence tests your ability to identify which piece of evidence — a quote, a research finding, or a data point — best supports, illustrates, or undermines a given claim.

Understanding

Core move: match one piece of evidence to one specific claim, whether the question asks you to support it or weaken it.

Every question gives you a claim or conclusion, then asks which quote, finding, or data point best fits that job. The best choice is tightly linked to the claim; it is not just topic-adjacent.

Trap: evidence can be true and still miss the question. If it does not make the claim more believable, or does not directly challenge it when asked to weaken it, it is a distractor.
